Fundamental Environmental Advantages
- Low smoke, low toxicity, and flame retardancy: They meet flame-retardant requirements without the need for additional flame retardants. During combustion, smoke emission and toxicity are far lower than those of most general-purpose synthetic resins, resulting in reduced environmental hazards in fire scenarios.
- High stability after curing: Fully cross-linked and cured phenolic resins are chemically stable under normal conditions; they do not release significant amounts of toxic or harmful substances during standard use, resulting in minimal impact on indoor air quality.
- No release of highly toxic gases during production: Conventional manufacturing processes do not directly release highly toxic gases, and the industry generally classifies them as environmentally friendly basic synthetic materials.
Environmental Differences Among Phenolic Resin Types
- Low-free-phenol phenolic resins: These feature extremely low free-phenol content and superior environmental performance, making them suitable for applications with strict safety requirements, such as binders for children's toys, composite materials for food packaging, and indoor decorative panels.
- Odorless phenolic resins: These products have minimal odor and are suitable for indoor decoration, furniture manufacturing, and the production of children's products, significantly improving air quality in the usage environment.
- Water-soluble phenolic resins: These use water as the dispersion medium and contain no organic solvents. VOC emissions are far lower than those of traditional solvent-based products; they are used in water-based coatings and adhesives, drastically reducing organic solvent pollution.
- Standard solvent-based phenolic resins: These contain organic solvents and generate volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions during production and use; their environmental performance is inferior to the modified, eco-friendly categories mentioned above.
